Catching up...Here are my latest stories!

I've been pretty busy the past few days, covering four stories in five days and writing them up as quickly as I can.  More on that process in another post...for now, here are the latest links:

Do you know we have a real live Walt Disney Imagineer living in Altadena?  His name is Joe Rohde and he spoke at the Pacific Asia Museum on Friday night.  I covered it for Tim Rutt's altadenblog.  It's a fun read, he's a very interesting guy.
Imagineer Rohde travels the world for Disney, but comes home to Altadena

On Thursday, I covered an important meeting for the residents of Altadena, especially those on the west side.  Sheriff's deputies and community members rolled out a plan to improve communication and relationships with the Altadenans.  It appeared in altadenablog as well.

I think Dan Abenschein of Altadena Patch is trying to make a naturalist out of me. In addition to Wednesday's Sierra Club meeting (see post below), he sent me on a hike up Rubio Canyon on Sunday as part of the Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy celebration.  The conservancy just purchased the last piece in a 41-acre parcel that will preserve the watershed and natural wonders of Rubio Canyon.

I  hope you'll enjoy my latest efforts to cover this great community!  Let me know your thoughts!

Los Angeles at it's darkest: The Black Dahlia Murder

No film noir could have been darker and more suspenseful than the sensational Black Dahlia murder.  The crime has fascinated Angelenos from the time the mutilated body of Elizabeth Short was found in 1947 to this very day.

It had all the elements that make for a Raymond Chandler mystery--a beautiful and mysterious young victim, horrifically tortured and mutilated, an elusive killer, sensational press, countless confessions and more than a score of suspects (several of them prominent physicians), and of course that unforgettable moniker. But in the end, Philip Marlowe gets his man.  The killer of The Black Dahlia has never been officially identified.

Read my story The Black Dahlia: surrealer than fiction on a life cut Short on altadenablog.  Thanks to Tim Rutt for the great headline!

Read my latest articles!

The Weymouth water treatment plant is shutting down for maintenance and seismic upgrades. It treats water for many of the water companies in the San Gabriel foothills communities.  Here are three articles I wrote on the subject:

MWD to shut down San Gabriel Foothills water treatment plant for maintenance

Altadena residents asked to conserve water during shutdown

MWD urges San Gabriel foothills to plan for water outage

You can also get weekly updates on the progress of work on the Pasadena Freeway by looking at my San Gabriel Foothills column.  Look for stories headed "110:101".

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, my mother passed away in December. Though it was expected--she was 94, after all--we all miss her very much.

Since her passing, with all the arrangements for her memorial, executing her estate, and renovating her house so it can be leased, I have not had time to get my blog up and running.  I hope those of you who visit will be patient.

Keep checking back!  You can look forward to posts on stories I'm writing on other sites and some original writing here.
